Presales Engineer - Remote, Mid-West US preferred


JOB TITLE: Presales Engineer
STATUS: Regular / Full-Time / Exempt
SALARY RANGE: Based on Experience
LOCATION: Remote, preferred Mid-West US (Milwaukee, Chicago, Detroit, Pittsburg, Cleveland)

The Presales Engineer at SWIM.AI will be responsible for engaging with our clients and their key technical personnel such as lead software and hardware architects, solution engineers, manufacturing process engineers and project managers on a daily basis. The successful candidate will have proven experience in presales of complex software solutions – particularly in the area of IoT solutions, machine learning and analytics and/or some level of application development. Work with client and prospective clients in a soft-sell, consultative manner and articulate the advantages of SWIM’s approach to edge data processing & analytics and the related competitive advantage versus cloud-centric and big data alternatives.

The role involves advancing a number of different projects that are in flight (e.g. POCs & production pilots as well as early enterprise deployments). Working closely with our Vice President of Market Development, this role covers everything from early technical introductions to SWIM as well as gathering detailed specifications, architectural scoping for the client’s required solution for the opportunities that in early-to-mid stages of the pipeline. There will also be a strong level of necessary engagement with leading universities across the mid-west US to evangelize and train people on SWIM for enterprise projects that are being driven by one of our strategic partners.

  • Understand the notion of real-time streaming data and related operating environments and use cases • Knowledge of edge computing and distributed compute architectures & use cases
  • Knowledge of IIoT / IoT & data analytics industry trends in relevant markets, including new products, applications, and the competitive technology ecosystem
  • Operate as an extension to Market Development VP to build greater account business development coverage, operating scale and commercial deal execution
  • Must be comfortable selling top-down and with senior technical personnel within an account; the goal is to largely operate at the VP, CTO, Chief Architect level; to a lesser extent at the Director level
  • Initiative and drive to enter market white space and make sense out of unestablished markets for a new company and technology
  • Ability to align SWIM capabilities with new markets and customer needs; ability to identify and engage with appropriate stakeholders
  • Establish and leverage networks to key prospects, customers, partners to promote SWIM.AI solutions and services
  • Understand customer business, product requirements, and industry challenges
  • Collaborate with other key members of the SWIM.AI team in order to understand and deliver client requirements


  • 5+ years of experience selling complex technical solutions to organizations and multiple decision-makers
  • Proven ability to produce and deploy innovative marketing programs to enterprise/OEM/IOT/IIOT sectors
  • Technical skill set with knowledge in one or more of the following: Hadoop open-source software; big data architectures and analytics solutions; background in networking technologies; some level of java development skills
  • Experience and expertise selling in the understanding application infrastructure and related software technologies
  • Business experience in one or more of the following: Industrial Automation industry; IIoT; technology hardware OEMs
  • Effective presentation creation and delivery skills
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • Travel to customer meetings and engagements (mostly within but not restricted to the mid-west region); travel to HQ in San Jose as needed
  • A genuine hunger to learn and promote a highly technical and disruptive technology that is poised to change how enterprises can benefit from and act upon real-time insights from streaming data
  • BA / BS degree required; technology experience preferred. Graduate degree a plus
  • Demonstrated success in technology presales role
